THE UNIVERSITY of Limerick (UL) has "significantly improved" its ranking by securing a place among the top 500 universities worldwide.
In the 2024 rankings, UL climbed over 100 places, securing an overall ranking of 426 worldwide.
This number comes according to the latest edition of the prestigious QS World University Rankings, which comprehensively evaluates the performance of the world's top 1,503 universities, spanning across 104 countries.
In the previous year's rankings, UL was positioned within the range of 531-540, making its ascent even more notable.
The rankings are based on various indicators, including academic and employer reputations, citations per faculty, faculty-to-student ratio, and international faculty and student ratios.
The 2024 ratings introduced three additional indicators: International Research Network, Employer Outcomes, and Sustainability. These changes reflect the evolving landscape of higher education, highlighting the increasing significance of sustainability, employability, and research collaborations.
Welcoming the announcement, Professor Norelee Kennedy, UL Vice President Research said: "Improving our ranking by over 100 places is testament to the hard work and dedication of the university faculty, staff and students and reflects UL’s improved performance in research and teaching.
"We are dedicated to continuing to improve our performance and to offer an outstanding experience for our current students and to attract the best talent to UL," Professor Kennedy added.
