A GARDA has been labelled as a hero and ‘a jack of all trades’ after he helped rescue a swan which was in distress in Limerick city.

Assisted by colleagues from Unit B at Mayorstone Park garda station, Garda James Denieffe, along with members of the public, ensured the swan was safely escorted to Rockhall Vets at Henry Street in the city centre.

The incident happened at the weekend and the swan is believed to have made a full recovery.

However, those involved have not escaped the numerous puns which were posted on social media after gardai highlighted the incident on Facebook.

Members of the social networking platform commended the garda, who is based in Ardnacrusha, for not ‘swanning around’ while going on to speculate that the swan was ‘ruffling some feathers’.

Overall members of the public are commending Garda Denieffe for his act of kindness as well as the local community involvement in getting the swan to safety.
