New Cathaoirleach for county Limerick municipal district

Councillor Tom Ruddle, Cathaoirleach of the Newcastle West Municipal District

A NEW CATHAOIRLEACH has been elected for the Newcastle West Municipal District in Limerick. 

Councillor Tom Ruddle was elected to the position after being proposed by Councillor Liam Galvin and seconded by Councillor John Sheahan. 

Cllr Ruddle was elected as a Fine Gael councillor for Newcastle West for the first time in 2019 and in 2021 he took on the role of Deputy Mayor of Limerick. 

Before taking his seat on the council he had lived and worked in the town for 30 years and is involved in a number of voluntary and community organisations. 

His name is well known in the sporting community, he was the first acting chairperson of Newcastle West Rovers , then following their successful merger with Newcastle West AFC, acting as co- chairperson of Newcastle West Town FC.

The auctioneer and qualified financial adviser oversaw the development and purchase of new sports facilities in Woodfield, a development worth over half a million euro, that is used and enjoyed each week by over 700 children and adults.

He is also involved with the Newcastle West Brothers of Charity football for all initiative and he has served as head coach with Coolyroe Athletic club.

Adding to his busy schedule, Cllr Ruddle is also a member of NCW Chamber of Commerce and founding member of Newcastle West Lions Club.

Speaking at the AGM of the Newcastle West district, Cllr Ruddle thanked his predecessor Councillor Michael Collins and said he was "looking forward" to the year ahead. 

Cllr Ruddle lives in Newcastle West with his wife Marie, son Andrew and daughter Blathnaid.
