Handbag stolen from elderly woman's home in Limerick as she slept

A WOMAN in her 80s in Limerick had her handbag stolen from her home as she slept.

The woman, from Kildimo, woke up as normal on Saturday, June 17 but when she later went looking for her handbag, she couldn't find it.

It was subsequently discovered that when she went to bed the night before, she had set her alarm but neglected to close a downstairs window.

A criminal climbed in that window, saw the house alarm fob on her back door keys and turned off her house alarm.

The criminal picked up her handbag and left the house.

Sergeant Ber Leetch, Crime Prevention Officer Henry Street Garda Station said: "We must get into good crime prevention habits and layer up our security both when we are in our homes or away on holidays".
