A BUSY Limerick city supermarket has shut its doors after receiving major water damage.

Tesco at Roxboro Shopping Centre has closed since the heavy rain and thunder earlier this Monday afternoon.

A spokesperson for Tesco Ireland said: "[The supermarket] has closed due to floods through the ceiling tiles."

Since the closure, the spokesperson has said that the retailer is "hoping to be open tomorrow."

Customers were in the building at the time of the flooding, however, there has been no confirmed injuries.

Videos circulating around social media show heavy streams of water falling through ceiling tiles, while one customer even walks through an aisle using an umbrella for protection.

The flooding came after Met Éireann's issue of a yellow weather warning for heavy showers and thunderstorms.
