New Cathaoirleach appointed for county Limerick district

A NEW Cathaoirleach has been appointed for the Adare/Rathkeale municipal district of Limerick City and County Council.

Councillor Adam Teskey was nominated by his predecessor Councillor Stephen Keary and seconded by Councillor Kevin Sheahan for the role.

This is the fourth time that Cllr Teskey has been at the helm of the district with his political links stretching back to childhood.

Cllr Teskey is the youngest son of John and Rae Teskey, born in 1989. The Teskey family name has been linked with the Rathkeale /Adare area for over 300 years.

The 33 year-old has been in Fine Gael since he was 12 years old, and at the age of 16, he was also the youngest chairman of a Young Fine Gael branch in the country.

He has held different positions in the Party both at local and constituency level and was successfully co-opted to Limerick County and City Council in March 2016, following the election of Tom Neville to Dáil Éireann.

Cllr Teskey is a qualified auctioneer and also farms at his home farm in Reens Pike.

He has worked at Deerpark Motors, Charleville as well as in machinery sales with Mervyn Shorten, Croom.

The Teskeys can claim political links to the former prime minister of Canada, Stephen Harper, whose wife Laureen Teskey is a descendent of the homestead in Killeheen.

Cllr Teskey was elected Cathaoirleach at the district AGM on Monday where he called for two special meetings. One to discuss the Adare Local Area Plan in detail and the other to meet with representatives from Irish Water with regards to the sewage system in Askeaton.
