Hundreds affected as power outages rage across Limerick as lightning strikes

A number of customers waiting in darkness in Tesco, Arthur's Quay as power outages rage across Limerick

A NUMBER of power outages have been reported across Limerick as thunderstorms persist throughout the city and county.

Outages have been reported in the Dooradoyle, Birdhill/Castleconnell areas and outages have been reported in Arthur's Quay Shopping Centre disrupting many going about their Saturday shopping.

It is believed that hundreds of people have been affected by the outages which have been ongoing since lightning struck yesterday with reports of outages occurring in Bruff, Hospital, Pallasgreen and Newcastle West last night.

There are also reports of a power outage at the Crescent Shopping Centre.

Met Éireann has a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in place for Limerick valid until 11pm this Saturday night.

The thunderstorms will continue to bring frequent lightning, heavy downpours, gusty winds, and a chance of hail.
