The annual charity football match between Limerick Solicitors and members of An Garda Siochana takes place at 6pm this Friday, June 16 in Jackman Park.

It is being organised by Roxboro Superintendent Andrew Lacey, Garda Barry O'Donnell and Derek Walsh, of MHP Sellors Solicitors.

Mr Walsh said all proceeds raised will be donated to Children's Grief Centre.

“If you can’t play, feel free to pop up to watch the match and/or come along for the post match drinks - we would love the support. There will be a trophy presentation and a few drinks in Jerry Flannery’s after the match,” said Mr Walsh.

The solicitor said the Children’s Grief Centre exists to give hope to the hundreds of children and young people who have experienced loss through death, separation and divorce.

“Since setting up in 2009, the Children's Grief Centre has supported over 2,000 children nationwide. This is the only centre of its kind in Ireland and the service is entirely free of charge.

“In 2020, the Ladies’ Residence on the John Henry Newman Campus at Mary Immaculate College was gifted to the Children’s Grief Centre by the Sisters of Mercy.

“Following substantial investment of €3.5m and extensive renovation of the building, the Childrens Grief Centre now has a child centric design with a range of support rooms, tailored to specific age groups,” said Mr Walsh, who thanked Limerick and District League for the use of Jackman Park.
