New affordable housing scheme launched in popular Limerick suburb

Limerick council launches 25 houses under new affordable housing scheme

The new development will be located at Brú na Gruadán, Castletroy

A NEW affordable housing development in a popular Limerick suburb has been launched by the local authority.

Limerick City and County Council, in partnership with Formation Homes, has revealed details of the new scheme - at Brú na Gruadán, Castletroy - which is aimed at private buyers.

The Brú na Gruadán affordable housing scheme is a development of 25 homes consisting of three-bedroom duplexes and four-bedroom houses with prices starting from €262,500 for a three-bedroom duplex, and from €290,000 for a four-bedroom house.

Under the scheme, Limerick City and County Council will take a percentage equity share (share of the ownership) in each of the homes.

Describing the new scheme an “important milestone”, Mayor of the city and county of Limerick, Cllr Francis Foley said: “Limerick City and County Council is delighted to reach this important milestone, in what will be the first affordable housing scheme for Limerick under Housing for All. This scheme will provide much needed affordable homes in Castletroy for first time buyers and fresh start applicants.”

This new scheme is generally aimed at first-time buyers and fresh-start applicants, and aims to help people on moderate incomes to buy new homes at reduced prices.

Caroline Curley, Director of Housing with Limerick City and County Council said further schemes are in the pipeline elsewhere in Limerick: “This scheme is one of a number of affordable housing schemes which will be delivered by the Council over the next two years. These affordable housing schemes will increase the number of high quality affordable homes in Limerick, meeting the growing demand for different types of housing across the city and county.”

The online application portal for those interested in purchasing one of the affordable homes at Brú na Gruadán will open for applications on Tuesday, June 20, at 12pm.
