Rathkeale
COUNCILLORS in the Rathkeale area have welcomed the appointment of a Development Officer for the town.
The new role has been created by Limerick City and County Council to act as a point of contact between residents in the town and council officials.
The role will be to enhance the social, physical and economic fabric of the town and to co-ordinate activities of council departments, state agencies, local groups and local residents.
In a statement confirming the appointment, a spokesperson from Limerick City and County Council said: “It is acknowledged that the town of Rathkeale needs a renewed emphasis and this is something that the district councillors have been seeking for some time.
“There will be a strong emphasis on community engagement and in reaching out to all stakeholders to seek their views on the needs of Rathkeale town.”
Regular updates will be brought by the officer to the monthly district meeting of councillors and the elected officials will be kept fully informed of any proposals by the development officer.
Councillor Adam Teskey said he would like to see remit for the role expanded to other areas surrounding the town, not just the local area itself.
Confirmation of the successful candidate is expected to be announced soon.
Separately, on May 30 Rathkeale Community Council will hold a public Annual General Meeting combined with an extraordinary general meeting.
There are nine open positions on a reconstructed Executive Committee and new nominations are welcome.
