A POPULAR children's play centre is set to permanently close next month after 20 years of business in Limerick.

Tons of Fun, located in Eastway Business Park on the Ballysimon Road, will be shutting its doors for good, with the owners taking the decision to focus on other career endeavours. Twelve jobs will be lost as a result of the closure on June 4.

Seamus and Juliet Morris have made the decision to shut down the business. They emphasise that the decision to close "hasn't been taken lightly", but that it was time to "move on".

"We want to express our sincere thanks to all our loyal and valued customers, friends and family for their support - it's a decision that hasn't been taken lightly, but after all these years, it's time for us to move on," Juliet told Limerick Live.

"We have been inundated with good wishes since the announcement was made, and we really appreciate it. We couldn't have done it without the Tons of Fun Team: a special mention goes to our managers and supervisors and all our staff through the years for their hard work and dedication.

"We are extremely proud of our team for always doing a great job of keeping the play centre clean and safe, and providing exceptional service to our customers."

Tons of Fun offered the children of Limerick and surrounding areas an indoor soft-play and activity centre which was a popular venue for birthday parties, corporate events, school tours and the parent toddler sessions. Though temporarily closing for two years during the midst of Covid-19, the couple have run the centre since September 2003.

Tons of Fun's online company will continue to operate as Juliet explained: "We'll be focusing our efforts on our online balloon and partyware store tofballoons.ie which will be relocating soon to another premises on the Dock Road."
