GARDAI are investigating a burglary at an apartment in Limerick city while the female occupants were asleep.
At around 4.45am on Tuesday, the two women woke to the sound of somebody in the kitchen and they then heard footsteps as
the intruder left.
"They contacted gardai and went to the kitchen where they could see a box of beer was missing. They also realised that neither of them had locked the door of the apartment," said divisional crime prevention officer Sergeant Ber Leetch.
"They were very shocked and frightened but relieved that the burglars had left. I have noticed that it can take a frightening
experience like this before people change their security routines," she added.
Gardai are urging all householders to double check the windows and doors at their homes and to make sure that they are
properly secure at night.
Tuesday's incident happened in the Mayorstone area and anyone with information is asked to come forward.
