Picture This front-man praises Limerick school's cover of song on national radio

Today FM presenter credits Limerick school's cover of popular song on air

The choir released the song before St Patrick's Day

A NATIONAL radio show has brought the limelight to a Limerick secondary school after they shared a soundbite of the school's rendition of a popular song, accompanied by the band's lead singer.

Laurel Hill Secondary School FCJ has been praised live on Today FM by presenter Dave Moore, for their choir's Irish cover of the radio hit Get On My Love, or Tabhair Dom an Grá, by Irish band Picture This.

Also on the airwaves with Dave was Picture This front man Ryan Hennessy who was astounded by the cover when it was first released, and even shared it to the band's Facebook page.

"I shared that with all of my family when I seen it," said the lead singer. He added that they had composed the song with two Sweedish men, who "are obsessed with Ireland."

"They were just blown away hearing our language. They did a great job," he praised.

"My God it's amazing ... Laurel Hill, well done," said Dave.

The secondary school had originally released the Irish version on March 16, to conclude Seachtain na Gaeilge.

A short while after publishing the song to social media, their Facebook post was shared by the band's official page with the caption, "guys this is incredible."

With the help of the Deputy Principal Suzanne Creaven, and the music and Irish department at the school, the students posted a video of their Irish language cover on YouTube and to social media.

The three-minute video shows an auditorium full of students performing their version of the hit.

Donning their uniforms, they sang their hearts out while also playing instruments such as drums, electric guitar, bass and violins.

Not their first homage to Seachtain na Gaeilge, the school choir has released other Irish interpretations of popular songs such as Zombie by Limerick's The Cranberries, and Shallow by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.
