A PUSH to compete for Limerick’s most environmentally friendly area has presented itself again this year with the Limerick Going For Gold, 2023 initiative.
Last year, a total of €60,000 of prize funding was set aside for this community-based competition, whereby the aim is to make Limerick a cleaner place to live, socialise and work.
The focus is not only on efficient waste/litter management, but also aims for communities to become aware of their emission usage and the environmental impact in doing so.
The Limerick public, residents associations, Tidy Towns groups and more are encouraged to apply and take part in Going for Gold 2023, with a monetary prize for their local area up for grabs.
The Limerick City and County Council said: “This is a unique collaborative campaign with two elements to it, that include an Environment Improvement Grant and the competition.
“Limerick Going for Gold 2023 Environment Improvement Grant is now open for applications - once a group applies for funding, they are automatically included in the Going for Gold Competition.
“The 2023 competition element of Going for Gold will be launched later in the year.”
Since its establishment in 2012, with the collaboration of the JP McManus Charitable Foundation and Limerick City and County Council, the Going for Gold grant scheme has enabled environmental improvement works to take place across Limerick city and county.
The categories available for people to enter in this year are: Reuse Award, Endeavour Award, Tidy Towns category, Limerick Bee Friendly in Bloom, Residential Areas category and the Most Beautiful Front Garden Category.
Last year, Adare struck gold and won the competition outright in the Tidy Towns category.
The Going for Gold competition is supported by Limerick Leader/Limerick Live, Live 95, Limerick Post, I Love Limerick, Limerick City Centre Tidy Towns, Southern Media Marketing and Design and the Parkway Shopping Centre.
Terms and conditions apply to each category and applicants must meet the criteria to be considered for Going for Gold 2023.
