ALMOST €25,000 was raised for the Irish Grocers Benevolent Fund at a gala ball in Limerick city at the weekend.
Member of the IGBF from the across region joined suppliers from the trade to support the annual Black Tie Gala Valentine's Ball which took place at The Castletroy Park Hotel.
"Guests on the night put aside their retail differences and came together to help the IGBF Mid-West Region raise much-needed funds for the many families that are in need of support," commented James Johnson of Dunnes Stores in Tipperary Town who is chairman of IGBF Mid-West.
The guest speaker on the night was Joe Manning Commercial Director of Tesco Ireland and the main sponsors were Shannon Airport, Inver, Diageo, Irish Distillers, Molson and Britvic.
A registered charity, the Irish Grocers Benevolent Fun assists up to 200 families across the country at any one time and contributes in the region of €500,000 annually in support.
This support takes the form of monthly, quarterly or annual annuities as well as crisis grants where appropriate.
