A YOUNG Kilfinane man who tried to run from gardai didn’t get very far, Kilmallock Court heard.
Pierce Noonan, aged 22, of Bosnetstown, Kilfinane pleaded guilty to possession of drugs and obstruction of a peace officer.
Garda Jerry O’Connor said he was on patrol on Mill Road, Kilfinane on June 10, 2021.
He added that he conducted a drugs search after the defendant raised his suspicions.
“I found a plastic container which contained what I believed to be cannabis herb,” said Garda O’Connor.
The court heard that at this point Mr Noonan took off running.
“I gave chase and handcuffed him. He had a bag of cannabis contained in a sock. The cannabis was valued at €25. He said it was for his personal use and he was ‘not selling’,” said Garda O’Connor.
Con Barry, solicitor for Mr Noonan, said the cannabis was for his client’s own personal use. “He has one previous conviction (intoxication),” he said.
Judge Marie Keane fined Mr Noonan €200 for possession of drugs and €150 for obstruction
