A house with its own view: 11 Castle Street in the city’s medieval quarter features a mural of Dolores O’Riordan
ONE OF the most iconic buildings in Limerick – thanks to Dolores O’Riordan – is up for sale.
11 Castle Street in the city may not take your breath away when you look at it from the front but it’s a different picture from the side. The stunning mural of the late Cranberries singer was unveiled just over three years ago. The artistic creation is part of a series that celebrates influential and powerful women in Limerick by local urban-art initiative Draw Out.
Briain Considine, of Rooney Auctioneers, said the property would be very well known due to the stunning mural of the late Dolores O’Riordan which graces the side of the building.
“It is in a prominent position right across from King John’s Castle and is very familiar to those who enjoy the Three Bridges Walk,” said Mr Considine.
The estate agent described it as “very keenly priced” at €240,000 and reports good interest thus far.
Due to the commercial aspect on the ground floor and accommodation upstairs Mr Considine it was open to a number of uses and is an “excellent investment opportunity”.
There is a retail/commercial unit which occupies most of the ground floor frontage. This has a bright light filled interior, bathroom and a rear yard with a separate side entrance. Next to the shop there is a door to the entrance hallway leading to the house which consists of a living room and kitchen on the ground floor and three bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. There is also an enclosed yard to the rear.
But where 11 Castle Street really shines is on the outside and the art piece of Dolores. In 2019, Draw Out creator Catherine O’Halloran described the response to the latest mural as “overwhelming”.
“This piece has touched people and resonated with them. I’m positive and hopeful that people will honour it and see it as something precious,” said Catherine.
It is definitely the dream home for a fan of Dolores O’Riordan.
