ONE OF Ireland’s most successful road cyclists, Seán Kelly was on hand to present Down Syndrome Limerick with proceeds from a charity cycle.

A long time supporter of Down syndrome charities, Kelly handed over €68,888, which was raised by his Three Counties Cycle last September.

“Down Syndrome Limerick is a great charity that does so much work to help children and adults with Down syndrome. It is easy to get involved and behind the work that they do when you see parents working so hard to provide the services that their children need and deserve. The Three Counties Cycle is a great event and is well organised. I’m delighted to be a part of it”.

Ellen Tuffy, Chairperson of Down Syndrome Limerick described how the support has helped.

“Many of our children are not getting adequate services elsewhere and the demand for services at the charity is therefore at an all-time high. We couldn't do this work without support like this,” said Ms Tuffy.

Down Syndrome Limerick aids people of all ages and their families with support programmes, adult education courses, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and school supports, among other things.

Last year, the event saw 550 cyclists pedal a 50km or 100km route around Limerick, Clare and Tipperary.

The next edition of the Three Counties Cycle is scheduled to take place on September 17 this year.
