GARDAI are investigating the theft of hundreds of euro from a young woman who was targeted by fraudsters.
Earlier this week, the 18-year-old, who is from the Mungret area, reported to gardai that money had been taken from her Revolut account without her permission.
"On Monday morning, she received a phone call from an individual claiming to be from Revolut. He stated that she had been frozen out of her Revolut account and in order to reactivate it she had to provide him with her log in details. Unfortunately, the girl followed all of his instructions and provided him with her details and so he had access to her Revolut account," said Sergeant Ber Leetch.
Once the phone conversation ended, the young woman accessed her account and she discovered that almost €800 had been taken from her account without her permission.
"When we talk about frauds and scams we mention bank accounts and bank cards but criminals can steal our money from any type of account if we provide them with our passwords and details," added Sgt Leetch.
The garda advice is to never share any PIN or password associated with financial accounts or institutions.
