LIDL Ireland invested more than €6m in Limerick food producers last year, a new report has found.
According to the latest Supplier Impact Report, some of the retailer's key Limerick suppliers include Ballyneety-based Ishka, who supply spring water and Ballyhoura’s Applewood Farm who have been supplying a number of award-winning condiments since 2018.
Commenting on the latest report, JP Scally, CEO of Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland, said: “This record investment is a huge
driver of economic growth, and this report demonstrates just how important supplier relationships are."
With more than 400 local suppliers in the Republic of Ireland, Lidl Ireland continues to give producers in Limerick unrivalled access to local and international markets.
Many of these deals included significant exports reaching the shores of Great Britain, Germany, Cyprus, Italy, USA, Denmark, Greece, Portugal, Slovenia and Poland.
Now in its seventh year, Lidl has invested more than €7 million in the Kickstart programme to date, which has empowered hundreds of Irish suppliers to showcase their produce to the 1.5 million shoppers each week.
The retailer currently has four stores in Limerick city and one in Newcastle West two while more are under construction in the city.
