Second car destroyed in Limerick arson attack was 'collateral damage'

Bruff gardai are investigating the incident

TWO cars have been destroyed in an early morning arson attack in County Limerick.

A garda spokesperson confirmed officers are investigating an incident of criminal damage by fire which occurred in Athlacca, at approximately 4.20am on Saturday, January 7.

"Two vehicles were discovered on fire. No arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing," said a garda spokesperson.

Limerick Live believes that one of the vehicles was targeted by the perpetrator but the second car was "collateral damage" due to its proximity to the first vehicle.

Two units from Kilmallock Fire and Rescue Service responded to quench the blazes. Firefighters spent over two and a half hours at the scene to ensure the area was safe.

It is understood there is no connection to a drive-by shooting and petrol bomb at a house in nearby Banogue in early December.
