Father and son: The late Jerry Flannery with his son of the same name
HEARTFELT tributes have been paid to the late Limerick publican and rugby personality Jerry Flannery Senior.
Flannery, late of Annacotty and Flannery’s Bar, Catherine Street, passed away peacefully at University Hospital Limerick.
The father of former Ireland Munster rugby star Jerry Flannery passed away on Tuesday.
His nephew and Limerick representative of the Vintner’s Federation of Ireland, Paul Flannery, said Jerry will be missed by the community.
“He was such a character, a delight. His smile and his laugh will be hugely missed by his family - we were very close. It’s a tragedy, someone so young,” said Paul.
Speaking of Jerry’s rugby days, Paul shared: “He used to play rugby, he played for Presentation RFC and Limerick Leprechauns RFC. And then, his son played with Munster.”
"Jerry was one of life’s gentlemen, a great neighbour and publican, he made time for everyone. We are all very sorry to hear of the sad passing of Jerry. Condolences to all the family, friends and staff at Flannerys, rest well Jerry," said Flan, Gretta and family from Costello's Tavern, Dominic St.
"Our sympathy on the passing of such an iconic Limerick man. Known Jerry since I was a kid, and always had a great chat when we’ve passed by at the bar over 30 years. Sympathy with all the family and many many friends and colleagues. RIP," wrote Liam O'Brien in tribute.
"My heartfelt Sympathies to all Jerry's family at this very sad time.
Lovely memories of calling over for lunch in the 70s and 80s with my Dad Joe from his shop across the road in Catherine St. Jerry was always so pleasant with his lovely smile. May he Rest in Peace," said Michelle Brooks.
Sadly missed by his beloved partner Chris, loving father of Jerry, father-in-law of Katy, ‘Dangy’ to his cherished grandchildren Eli, Ezra and Rua, and brother to Michael, Phil, Patsy, Ann, Seamus and John; his family, extended family and his many friends. Jerry is pre-deceased by his brother Liam and sister Breda.
