LIMERICK City and County Council has announced that an area of a popular walkway along the banks of the river Shannon will be closed for two weeks to facilitate maintenance works.

Sections of the Canal Bank between Pa Healy Road Bridge and the University of Limerick Boathouse will be closed from Monday next, January 9 until Friday, January 20 to allow necessary hedge cutting works to take place.

The local authority says separate sections of the walkway will be closed off at different times so as to minimise disruption to walkers and cyclists.

Works will only take place Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am and 4.30pm so the walkway will be open to the public outside of these hours.

The scenic path spans over three kilometres, starting in the city centre at the Guinness Bridge, and ends at the UL Boat House.
