LOCAL band Protobaby release their new single ‘State Of Affairs’ Upstairs in Dolan’s this Friday night.
The Limerick based band formed in 2008 and consists of members Colm McGuinness on vocals, Tony Monahan on guitar, drummer Bryan Ronan and Aidan Graham on bass.
After ten months jamming, writing, recording and rehearsing, Protobaby spent most of 2010 gigging and promoting their debut EP ‘Freedom’, a slice of bombastic rock and roll, particularly notable for McGuinness’ deep, rich baritone vocals. The five-track collection of upbeat, soft-core rock songs has brought the band attention and seen them picked out as ‘Ones to Watch for 2011’ in the Irish music scene.
Following a successful nationwide tour the band returned to the studio last year to work on new single ‘State Of Affairs’ which was recorded at Data Studios, Kerry and later mixed at ‘The Production Suite’ Dublin by Chris O’Brien and Graham Murphy.
The single will be released along with the accompanying video, which was directed by local filmmaker and musician Shane Serrano and will be shown this Friday at the Dolan’s gig.
“We hope to start 2011 off with a bang with a return to Dolan’s on Friday for the launch of the new single and video,” says Tony Monahan.
“We hope this new level of production will make 2011 an exciting year,” he adds.
The band got together when Tony and Aidan first met Dublin born singer Colm for the first time through an ad placed in a newspaper, and were impressed with McGuinness’ voice and lyrical style. Bryan was added on drums and the band quickly gelled together.
The Dolan’s gig will be the first date of a nationwide tour in support of the single. Special guests on Friday night will be Falling Planes and Birdthistle. Admission is €6 and for first 30 people to arrive on night includes a free copy of the new single.
