THE SECOND annual ‘Love Gourmet Week’ will be enticing diners to sample the best menus in Limerick restaurants again this year from the start of next month.

Running from June 1-10, the gastronomic event will see 10 restaurants across the city and county offering their best produce from €35 per person.

As part of the event, midweek promotions will take place in all participating restaurants with wine deals, cocktail specials and unique seasonal menus on offer to celebrate the event.

Padraic Frawley, chairperson of Love Gourmet Week, said the event will once again raise the food profile of the mid-west, local producers and enhance Limerick’s reputation as a “foodie hub”.

“Limerick and the Shannon region have some fantastic restaurants with quality food, wine and great dining options to choose from so we’re hoping to attract new visitors and foodies through Love Gourmet Week again this year, following on from last year’s success,” said the restaurateur.

Speaking at the launch of the event in the Hunt Museum, where members of the local and national press and leading members of the food and wine industry were treated to a sample of what will be on offer during the week, he said the message is about “good food, locally sourced and to get away from the whole cheap and cheerful thing.” “The future of the restaurant trade cannot be built on cheap and cheerful. It has to be based on good food at an affordable price.”

Hotelier Patricia Roberts, of No 1 Pery Square, explained that restaurants will use fresh local and organic food wherever possible in menus throughout the June event.

Restaurants taking part in Love Gourmet Week include: The Carraigehouse at Adare Manor, Azur; The Cornstore; Hamptons; Market Square Brasserie at The Savoy; The Mustard Seed, The River Bistro; The Cherry Tree; Brasserie One at No1 Pery Square; and The River Restaurant at the Strand Hotel.

Irish Rail is also running a Love Gourmet Week special extending its current online seat sale of one way fares between Dublin and Limerick from €14.99 on all train services between Limerick and Dublin in both directions during the event. Customers need to book at least three days in advance of travel. Pre booking is advisable in all restaurants and full details are available on www.lovegourmetweek.com.
