AFTER the hype of Cheltenham last week, all eyes now turn closer to home as preparations continue for one of the most hotly anticipated meetings of the year – the student race day at Limerick Racecourse.
Last year over 6,000 students descended on the racecourse and this year with great prizes on offer, prepare to see a mass of students at Greenmount Park on Tuesday, April 5.
During the day there will be two floors of music with Rock Group “Recoil” in the Tote Hall and a DJ from Spin Southwest will be entertaining the crowds in the Munster Suite.
Speaking at the launch of the Spin Southwest Student Raceday, Russell Ferris, General Manager of Limerick Racecourse said that in the past two years the Spin Southwest Student Raceday has become “one of the integral fixtures in the Limerick Racing calendar”.
“The atmosphere generated at last year’s event was absolutely superb with one Irish Derby winning jockey commenting that the roar of the crowd as the horses came into the home straight in one of the races was louder than the day he won the Irish Derby,” said Mr Ferris.
Tickets for the race day are priced at €5 to include admission and race card and this year students can also avail of a special €5 bus ticket with Mike Hynan Coaches. The buses will collect students from their college in Limerick and bring them back to the city for the after race parties taking place at Clohessy’s Sin Bin nightclub and Angel Lane nightclub.
The first race is off at 4:45pm on the day. Students can purchase the tickets from their Students Union or by calling Limerick Racecourse on 061-320000 or via email email@example.com
Other event planned forLimerick Racecourse over the coming weeks and months include the Munster in Red and Mothers Day event on Sunday, April 3 where all mums and ladies will enjoy free admission and any gentleman in a Munster jersey will benefit from €5 off admission.
