HOTEL room rates in Limerick have declined, making the city the second cheapest destination in Ireland, according to a new survey by booking website Hotels.com.

Seamus MacCormaic, director of market management UK & Ireland for Hotels.com, announced details of the Hotels.com Hotel Price Index survey this week, and revealed that the average price for a hotel room in Limerick in 2010 was €63 per night, compared to €69 in 2009, a fall that placed Limerick as the second cheapest destination in Ireland, with only Waterford (€56) offering better value.

“The survey shows that prices in Ireland have fallen by four percent since 2009, which means that it is stabilising in comparison to previous years, because it was down 21 percent in 2009,” Mr MacCormaic told the Limerick Chronicle. “What that means is that there is continuing value for families out there and it indicates also that there is an element of price stability coming in for hoteliers,” he added.

Responding to the survey, Donnacha Hurley, general manager of the Absolute Hotel in Limerick, said that it showed that there was “no better time to travel to Limerick”.

“Customers and consumers can see that when they are looking at the rates across the city, there is great value to be had out there, and it is as good as it can be, because the competition is fierce,” commented Donnacha.

“Ultimately consumers want value for money - not necessarily the cheapest always, but value for money, and you can get that now, you can stay in beautiful hotels at a great price and that is what is important. There will always be cheaper in the market place, but you are getting an amazing product here in Limerick,” he added.
