Limerick fashion students to showcase unique designs at annual show

TWENTY of Ireland’s future fashion designers will showcase their unique collections in the city on May 19 when the Limerick School of Art and Design, LIT, hosts its Annual Graduate Fashion Show.

TWENTY of Ireland’s future fashion designers will showcase their unique collections in the city on May 19 when the Limerick School of Art and Design, LIT, hosts its Annual Graduate Fashion Show.

Taking place at the LSAD gallery on Clare Street the show is one of the most highly anticipated in the local fashion calendar.

As well as showcasing their designs, the city-based students will also compete for the coveted AIB Graduate Business Development Award which includes a bursary of €2,500 and a year’s mentoring programme with renowned retail and fashion consultant, Eddie Shanahan, and AIB’s SME Specialist, Julie Lawton.

“The Limerick School of Art and Design is truly an exceptional college with an enormous amount of talent and a deserved international reputation. Its graduates have gone on to work with some of the leading labels in the world including Alexander Mc Queen (whose creative director, Sarah Burton, designed Kate Middleton’s wedding dress) and Vivienne Westwood. The students are extremely professional and take enormous pride in their work,” said Eddie Shanahan.

AIB is supporting the Graduate Business Development Awards for the third year which saw last year’s winner Sarah Melody launch her fashion career by winning the coveted prize and she will join Eddie Shanahan and Julie Lawton on the judging panel this year. The Miriam Mone Commemorative Award is also a special award worth €1,000 and will be presented to the collection that displays exceptional excellence in tailoring. The LIT Award for the best use of fabric will also see one student win €1,000 towards their fashion career.
