The Irish Cancer Society of Ireland will launch its new fundraising initiative on August 3 inviting communities from across Limerick to “run, walk and roll” their way around the county in order to raise vital funds for cancer research.

Participants are asked to pick a date and a venue for their event and those taking part are welcome to use scooters, skateboards, prams and bikes to complete their run, walk or roll of Limerick.

The Irish Cancer Society of Ireland is the largest independent funding organisation of cancer research in Ireland and in 2011 alone there were over 47 discoveries from research funded by the society.

Currently the Irish Cancer Society are investing in ‘gene therapy’ cancer research, supporting clinical trials in hospitals across Ireland and funding a team of prostate cancer researchers around the country who are working to find better ways of diagnosing and treating this disease.
