This will give a further boost to respiratory care in the Mid-West

HSE Mid West has announced the appointment of a new consultant at University Hospital Limerick (UHL).

Dr Nasir Majeed has joined UHL as a consultant in respiratory medicine.

This follows the appointment of another respiratory consultant, Dr Hammid Danish, earlier this month.

Dr Majeed brings “extensive” clinical experience from the NHS in the United Kingdom.

He joins the team at UHL with a broad range of experience in respiratory care and a particular interest in lung cancer and pleural disease.

Dr Majeed has significant international experience managing a wide range of respiratory conditions, including asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease and bronchiectasis.

Dr Majeed commented: “I am delighted to have begun work at UHL and to have become part of a dedicated team caring for patients across the Mid-West region.

“I am particularly pleased to be making available my experience within lung cancer multidisciplinary teams for patients in Limerick, Clare and Tipperary, focusing on early diagnosis and patient-centred care.

“I look forward to building strong relationships with patients, colleagues and community partners across the Mid West region.”

Dr Majeed also brings experience in clinical research and patient safety, having worked as a safety physician on the Salford Lung Study, a pioneering NHS-industry research partnership which provided insight into clinical research, pharmacovigilance and patient safety.

Outside of work, Dr Majeed enjoys spending time with his family, fishing and traelling, and is looking forward to discovering more of Ireland and the Mid-West region.
