A BOIL water notice which impacted hundreds of people living close to the Limerick/Tipperary border has been lifted, Uisce  Éireann has announced.

Since the beginning of March, households on the Glengar Public Water Supply scheme have been advised not to drink water from the local public supply following the detection of cryptosporidium.

The Boil Water Notice was put in place to protect the health of approximately 470 consumers who are supplied by the scheme scheme.

A small number of homes in County Limerick are located in the impacted area.

In a statement this Thursday evening, Uisce Éireann confirmed the notice has been lifted with immediate effect.

Colin Cunningham of Uisce Éireann said: "Uisce Éireann and Tipperary County Council wish to thank everyone for their patience, co-operation and assistance during this boil water notice and we greatly regret any inconvenience caused to homes and businesses in the community.”

Uisce Éireann and the Local Authority and the Health Service Executive Water Liaison Group will continue to meet and will review ongoing process control, monitoring and testing of the drinking water supply.
