Captain Bernard and his family were joined by the many members and guests who came on the night to help celebrate a wonderful year as captain of Castletroy Golf Club. Shaun O’Dowd and Hanora kept everybody on their toes with some lively music , following the wonderful meal served up by Darragh and his staff. Celebrations went long into the night, winding down a year for Captain Bernard, who I’m sure will take a long earned rest after next Thursday Men’s Club AGM. Well done Aoife.

AGM: We held our Parent Club AGM on Thursday night last. A well-attended, informative and efficiently run meeting, expertly chaired by Kathleen O’Dwyer, showed the Club to be on a reasonably sound footing despite an extremely difficult year. As with most clubs we suffered the effects of a drastic summer weatherwise and, of course, from the continuing downturn in the economy.

Priorities for the coming year will include a drive for both new members and those who for one reason or another had taken a break from golf membership. Captain, Tim Walsh, is spearheading this drive and together with Lady Captain, Kitty O’Reilly, invite prospective members-ladies and gents who would like to return to golf or who are anxious to pursue a new sporting outlet- to join them for an information evening in the Clubhouse on Sunday, December 16 at 5 p.m.- no Christmas shopping that day!
