THERE were mixed results for the two Limerick Colleges in Dr Harty Cup action this Wednesday afternoon.
Ardscoil Ris are in pole position to once again advance to January’s quarter-finals following their 2-15 to 2-12 win over St Colman’s Fermoy, while West Limerick Schools will need to win their final game and hope other results go in their favour if they are to join the city side in the knockout stages. They were beaten 2-15 to 0-14 by Blackwater.
The other Limerick sides, Castletroy and Doon were not in action this week.
Ardscoil Ris’ three-point win in round three puts the North Circular Road side top of their group with two games to play.
In two weeks time they will face a top of the table clash with Waterford’s De La Salle and then complete their round robin series against Clonmel.
The hero of this win over Fermoy in Cahir was Na Piarsaigh’s David Dempsey, who finished with 2-1 from play.
Mungret’s Cian O’Brien chipped in with five points from frees, while Patrickswell’s Cian Lynch was another of the stars.
Ardscoil Ris led 1-9 to 1-6 at half time.
Despite a six-week lay-off they were quick from the blocks and were up 1-8 to 1-3 after 23-minutes.
Again in the second half they opened up a 2-15 to 1-12 lead entering the closing stages.
The north Cork side only scored their second goal in injury time to reduce the final winning margin for the Limerick city side.

West Limerick will now be playing Charleville CBS in their final game in two weeks time.
They will need to win and also get favourable results elsewhere if they are to progress to the quarter-finals in the New Year, in what is their first year in the Munster senior A colleges hurling championship.
