DOON booked their first Limerick SHC semi-final place since 2005 thanks to a comfortable 1-18 to 0-9 win over South Liberties in Caherconlish on Saturday night.
Having topped a group that included Na Piarsaigh and Patrickswell, Doon came into this game as hot favourites and they justified that status with a well-rounded display that saw them in control of all sectors of the field.
They played with the wingd in the opening half and although they were 0-2 to 0-1 down after five minutes, they then hit five on the trot to assert their dominance. Niall Maher was particularly impressive in this early spell while Michael, Roger and Pat Ryan caused endless problems for the Liberties defence. The accuracy of Mark Keane kept the underdogs in the game but they trailed 0-11 to 0-5 at the break.
Liberties started the second half well but failed to take the chances that came their way and when Dean Coleman found the net for Doon midway through the second half, it signalled the end of the game as a contest.
They can be pleased with the win but can be certain that tougher tests lie ahead.
