Limerick Ladies football star Cathy Mee has announced her decision to retire from the inter-county game

LIMERICK'S decorated All-Ireland winning Ladies football captain Cathy Mee has confirmed her decision to retire from the inter-county game.

The Ballylanders club woman has been a key player for the Limerick Ladies Gaelic football side since first representing the county against Wicklow in 2016.

In 2018, Mee, a talented sporting all-rounder who also excelled at soccer and athletics, captained the Treaty women as they overcame Louth on a scoreline of 5-6 to 0-8 in the TG4 All-Ireland junior football championship decider.

The highly-regarded Mee was also hugely influential for the Limerick Ladies side which scored an impressive 4-8 to 1-10 win over Antrim in the 2016 Lidl National League Division 4 final.

Paying tribute to Cathy Mee, Limerick Ladies Gaelic Football said her contribution to Limerick Ladies Gaelic Football has been 'nothing short of extraordinary.'

The tribute continued: "From her debut in the green jersey to her final game, she has embodied leadership, commitment, and sportsmanship. Her skill, determination, and unwavering love for the game have inspired teammates, coaches, and supporters across the county and beyond.

"Throughout her career, Cathy has been a driving force both on and off the pitch. Her performances have consistently lifted the team, while her mentorship and encouragement have shaped the next generation of Limerick footballers. She has represented her county with pride, passion, and integrity, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered for years to come.

"As Cathy steps away from inter-county football, her impact will continue to resonate through the club scene and the wider Gaelic football community. Her name will forever be associated with excellence, leadership, and the spirit of Limerick Ladies Football.

"Limerick LGFA extends heartfelt gratitude to Cathy for her years of service, dedication, and inspiration. Her journey has been remarkable, and her legacy will continue to shine brightly in the history of Limerick sport.

"Thank you, Cathy Mee — a true Limerick legend."
