A bad start to the new season for the Limerick senior footballers as they were over run by the students from Cork 1-19 to 0-10 in the quarter-finals of the early season competition.
In the end Limerick lost by 12 points in the first ever inter-county competitive game to be played in the new county ground in Rathkeale.
A largely inexperienced Limerick trailed 1-5 to 0-5 in Mick Neville Park in Rathkeale. But UCC then dominated the second half.
Limerick must now regroup ahead of the start of the Allianz Football League on February 5 when they travel to Carrick On Shannon to play Leitrim in the opening game in Division Four.
Manager Maurice Horan will be hoping to have some of his long list of injured players back in action with John Galvin, Jim Donovan, Stephen Kelly all among those missing for this McGrath Cup game.
