All the action from Limerick Intermediate Football Championship

SIX games took place in the opening round of the Griffin Coaches Limerick intermediate football championship last weekend.
Dromcollogher Broadford, Cappagh, Galbally, Askeaton Ballysteen Kilcornan and Newcastle West all recorded opening round victories in the competiton.

Meanwhile, St Senan's and Pallasgreen played out a draw in the other game in the intermediate football championship.

Last year's county semi-finalists Dromcollogher Broadford eased past Glin 2-19 to 0-6 on Thursday evening in Newcastle West.
Limerick senior football captain Cillian Fahy, along with Limerick U20’s Micheal Fahy, Tommy Ryan and Brian O’Callaghan, will be hoping that Dromcollogher-Broadford can push on yhis year after falling short in last year’s IFC semi-final.

Askeaton-Ballysteen- Kilcornan made a winning start to their IFC campaign with a 3-19 to 0-15 victory over St Patrick's on last Friday evening in Mungret. Limerick footballers Danny Neville and David O'Shaughnessy are both part of the Askeaton-Ballysteen -Kilcornan outfit.Kyle Mullins, who was drafted into the Limerick panel this year is a key member of the St Patrick's squad.

Reigning junior champions Cappagh made a winning return to the intermediate ranks with a 3-9 to 1-13 victory over Claughaun in Askeaton on last Saturday evening.Former Limerick footballer Seamus O'Carroll and Cian O'Carroll are just two of the big threats for Cappagh in attack.

Dromcollogher Broadford, Cappagh and Askeaton Ballysteen all sit on two points in group one.

In group two, the Newcastle West second team edged past Crecora Manister in Ballingarry on last Saturday evening. Pallasgreen and St Senan's could not be separated on last Friday evening in Rathbane

Limerick sharpshooter James Naughton and UL student Cormac Woulfe are key players for St Senan’s. Limerick U20’s Padraic Phelan, Tadgh Hourigan and Shane Pearse are all part of the Pallasgreen squad.

Meanwhile, county finalists Galbally just did enough to get past a spirited Gerald Griffins side in Ballyagran on last Friday evening. Galbally's Eoin O’Mahony, was part of the Limerick senior football pre-season panel earlier this year. Gerald Griffins, , are anchored by Limerick’s Colm McSweeney and former county footballer Tommy Griffin, who form the spine of their team.

Galbally and Newcastle West both sit on two points after round one, Pallasgreen and St Senan's are on one point, Crecora Manister and Gerald Griffins are yet to register a point.

The 12 intermediate teams now face a break with some players now turning their attention to their respective hurling championships with their clubs.

In the next round of intermediate football fixtures, in group one, Dromcollogher Broadford meet Cappagh on Thursday August 14 at 7pm in Newcastle West.

Askeaton Ballysteen-Kilcornan will look to make it two wins out of two against Claughaun on Saturday August 16 in Ballybrown at 7pm.St Patrick's take on Glin in Askeaton on the same day at 7pm.

In group two, Galbally face Crecora Manister on Friday August 15 at 7pm in Kilteely. Pallasgreen take on Gerald Griffins on the same day in Ballingarry at 7pm. The final game in group two sees the meeting of Newcastle West against St Senan's on Saturday August 16 in Sean Finn Park Rathkeale at 7pm.
