GALBALLY came away victorious in the intermediate men’s cup at the Lidl Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé 2025.
The famed club ladies and men’s Gaelic football tournament took place all across the Dingle Peninsula over the weekend.
Galbally won the junior cup last year in the Lidl Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé. The south Limerick club led by 3-5 to 1-5 at half time against Bracknagh of Offaly in the semi-final of the competition. Last year's intermediate county finalists continued their dominance into the second half with corner forward Ger Quinlan bagging two goals and Galbally winning out by 3-10 to 2-8.
On the other side of the draw Killanerin of Wexford, club of the legendary Mattie Forde, beat St. Croans of Roscommon in their semi-final by 1-22 to 0-5. That set up a Limerick and Wexford final which Galbally won in a hard fought battle by two points on a scoreline of 6-5 to 3-12.
Limerick city club St. Patrick’s played Athgarvan of Kildare in their knock-out semi-final of the junior cup which they lost by 3-8 to 2-7. Athgarvan lost the final to Cahir of Tipperary by 5-9 to 3-8.
16 counties from the four provinces of Ireland took part in the 36th edition of the Lidl Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé, with 28 adult men’s and ladies club teams coming for a weekend of competitive football and social events including popular Irish band Super Céilí at Páidí Ó Sé’s pub in Ventry, West Kerry.
The football festival was founded by eight-time All-Ireland winner Páidí Ó Sé.
Comórtas Chairman, Pádraig Óg Ó Sé said; “Congrats to Galbally on their big victory and we welcome them back next year to defend their title. Hard luck too to St. Patrick’s. Both teams played in good spirits and conducted themselves well over the weekend. We were gifted with great weather conditions and luckily there were no injuries of note to report over the weekend. We thank all our title sponsor Lidl who are a key driver of the growth of Ladies Gaelic games in Ireland through their LGFA sponsorship. They contribute every year to the vision my father had, which was to promote the club game and also to attract people to the beautiful Dingle Peninsula.”
