“THIS is my first county final after almost 14 years of knocking on the door with Fr Caseys, so it’s been a long road,” said senior football captain Daniel Daly at the launch of the 2024 Irish Wire Products Limerick senior football final.

Sunday’s final against Adare in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale, will be the Abbeyfeale side's first senior final appearance since 2009. Casey's lost on that occasion to Dromcollogher-Broadford by two points.

Casey's captain Daly and his squad are itching to get their hands on the silverware after not winning the title since 2006.
Speaking about reaching the final and the excitement within the club ahead of next weekend's decider, he said: “We still have Martin Scannell playing for us who won the county title back then.

“He’s still going strong, but I guess what got us over the line this year was the amount of players we had returning. We have pretty much the same team as last year and that’s a huge plus.

“Having that bit of continuity in the squad brings everyone on and it’s a huge help going into the final as well, everyone knows each other in and out at this stage of the season.”

Their opponents on Sunday, Adare, have gotten the better of Fr Casey's on a number of occasions in semi-finals over the last number of years and wing-forward Daly knows how stern a test this weekend's showpiece final promises to be.

“It’s going to be hugely tough, they are seriously experienced having been to the last seven of eight finals. They have beaten us in the last two semi-finals, but finals are there to be won and it’s set up to be a very exciting game for both sides.”
