THERE was to be no repeat of last season’s Fitzgibbon Cup final between UL and LIT with the two Limerick Third Level Colleges losing out at the semi-final stages - both to Cork opposition.
In the end, UL’s crown was won by UCC with an extra time victory over Cork IT.
The winners had Adare’s Willie Griffin among their panel.
There was joy for Mary Immaculate College however, as they won the Ryan Cup with 2-21 to 0-10 win over IT Tralee.
The Limerick side were led by Waterford senior Shane O’Sullivan and Galway panelists Cormac Cooney. Locals in their line-up includes Michael Reidy, Robert O’Donnell and Michael Ryan.
Elsewhere on the colleges scene, there was All-Ireland semi-final and Munster final activity for a number of Limerick secondary schools.
St Fintan’s of Doon lost out to St Marys College of Belfast in the semi-final of the All-Ireland SBHC. They now turn their attentions to their upcoming semi-final of the All-Ireland ‘C’ football semi-final.
Coláiste Ide agus Iosef, Abbeyfeale were also in All-Ireland semi-final action and their senior ladies football side booked a place in the All-Ireland final with a win over St Leo’s of Carlow.
At Munster final level, Salesian College Pallaskenry were defeated by Kilmacthomas in the Munster SCHC final
