AFTER last week’s win over Carlow, the Limerick Ladies Footballers play Derry in round two of the league this Sunday.

The game against Derry is to take place this Sunday at 12-noon in the GAA grounds of Staker Wallace.

Limerick Ladies football team got their National Football League Division 4 campaign off to a flying start last Sunday last with a big win over Carlow in Dr Cullen Park.

Playing against a strong breeze in the first half, Limerick came out of the starting blocks flying.

Amy Breen from Monagea got Limerick on the score board with a goal and a point within the first three minutes.

Claire O’Riordan added another point five minutes later.

Carlow played some great football to make their way to the Limerick goal but a superb save from Mungret’s Tina Giltenane coupled with a great clearance stopped the opposition in their tracks.

With Limerick’s defence playing great football and finding players with some very accurate passing, they powered ahead adding four more points before Carlow made their way back up the field to be denied a certain goal by Tina Giltenane again.

A goal for Limerick’s Niamh Richardson and a point from Stephanie Carroll left Limerick leading by 3-7 to 0-1 at half-time.

During the interval, Limericks manager made some substitutions and this saw the welcome return of Dymphna O’Brien and Clodagh Reidy to competitive Inter-county football.

Limerick really powered on in the second half and aided by the strong breeze managed to put another five goals and nineteen points past their opposition. At one stage Limerick were scoring every minute of the second half. Dymphna is well and truly back after her sabbatical scoring 4-9 points in her first inter-county outing since last May. Long may it last.

It is great to see new faces scoring and the hard work and effort put into training since last October now appears to be reaping dividends. A lot of work done but a lot more to be done.
