LIMERICK will book a place in the final of the Co-op Superstores Munster Hurling League if they avoid defeat against Cork in Mick Neville Park on Wednesday evening.
John Kiely's side will face Waterford if they can overcome a Cork side that had a three-point victory over Clare at Páirc Uí Rinn on Sunday afternoon.
Limerick had a 2-21 to 1-19 victory over Clare on Wednesday evening last with eight players making their senior inter-county debuts in the win. Cathal O'Neill and Luke Flynn got the goals for Kiely's experimental side.
The game with Cork is the a re-fixture following the postponement in Mallow a week ago due to adverse weather conditions.
Elsewhere, Limerick's participation in the McGrath Cup came to an end after a 1-11 to 0-10 defeat to Tipperary in their clash at Templetuohy on Sunday afternoon.
Jimmy Lee's charges were 0-5 to 0-4 down at the break but they were well in the contest in the second half but a goal five minutes from time by Luke Shanahan saw Tipperary earn the victory.
Limerick open their Allianz Football League Division 3 campaign against Antrim on Sunday, January 28 at Mick Neville Park and Lee will be hoping for better fortunes in his first year in charge. Limerick were relegated from Division 2 in 2023.
The Limerick ladies footballers were also in action on Sunday afternoon when they took on Wicklow in Coolyroe. Mike Quilligan and Sean Kiely's team drew the game on a 1-3 to 0-6 scoreline with Iris Kenneally getting the goal. Limerick are back in action on Sunday where they will play Derry in Doon.
