University of Limerick Freshers footballers aiming for league title

The UL Freshers football panel that will play the league final against Ulster University in Abbotstown this evening

THE UNIVERSITY of Limerick's freshers footballers are looking to follow in their hurling counterparts' footsteps when they play their league final against the Ulster University in Abbotstown this Wednesday evening.

Managed by Oola's John O'Grady, UL were victorious against UCC in the group stage and also received a a walkover from MTU Cork.

UL then had a 1-12 to 0-12 win over ATU Sligo in the quarter-final, before seeing off UCD on a 2-12 to 0-9 scoreline in the semi-final.

As well as O'Grady, UL have Diarmuid Carroll, Killian Phair and Pa Ranahan as part of their management team. Ranahan is also currently coaching Mungret St Paul's as they prepare for the Munster Club IFC final on Sunday against Cill Na Martra in Cork.

There are four Limerick players on the UL panel; Diarmuid Ryan (Feenagh-Kilmeedy), Marc Nolan (Fr Casey's), Michael Kilbridge (Fr Casey's) and Senan O'Brien (St Senan's).

Cork's Dan Twomey is the UL captain and they have an impressive panel of players that include Cathal Brosnan (Kerry), Thomas Curran (Clare) and Marcus Dalton (Offaly). All four have impressed on the run to the final. 

The game against Ulster University has a 8pm throw-in in Abbotstown and is being streamed live on the TG4 YouTube channel. The panel of players and management is as follows.
