Limerick GAA club to host double football blitz as Gaelige

Ahane GAA club are to host two blitzes exclusively in Irish at their Mackey Park grounds.

LIMERICK GAA club Ahane are hosting a novel blitz at their grounds at Mackey Park on Saturday afternoon with games of junior football and Gaelic4Mothers and Others taking place exclusively in Irish.

The event is being organised by CLG Átháin and Peil na mBan Átháin The club's junior football team and the Gaelic4Mothers and Others teams will be joined by St Patrick's, Mungret St Paul's, Monaleen and Ballybrown teams from both codes to battle it out as Gaeilge.

Ahane's Irish officer, Denis Kelly, called the event "a great opportunity for all teams to play football and use and learn their cúpla focal in a fun and relaxed environment. With energetic Stiofán ó Fearaill from the popular Irish language band Seo Linn as MC for the event. Craic is guaranteed."

Ahane's PRO Emer Kenny said both sister clubs are "focused on community and this is a great opportunity for both Ahane GAA and LGFA to collaborate to organise a unique event. Supported with music afterwards from Comhaltas, it will be a sporting, cultural & social celebration as Gaeilge".

Chairperson of Ahane LGFA, Breda Aherne, who is well experienced with holding blitz's at the club, with over 500 girls taking part in the annual Ahane underage blitz last week said:

"The Gaelic4Mothers and Others group are "ar bís" (excited) to get involved and have an opportunity to partake in a blitz with their husbands and partners. It's not often that they get to battling it out on the pitch together at the same time and venue." 

The Clár den lae for the day is as follows:

Áit - CLG Átháin Mackey Park, Lios na Graí 
Té suas - 3.30pm Warm up with MC Stiofán ó Fearaill ó Seo linn
Cluichí - 4-5.30pm 7 a side matches
Ceol agus craic - 5-7pm Music and refreshments
