THE LIMERICK ladies football championship got underway at the weekend with a host of games taking place from Senior through to Junior.
Senior title holders Monagea got off to a winning start with a narrow one point win over Old Mill in the opening fixture of the campaign.
They got over the line with a scoreline of 0-15 to Old Mill's 1-11. Monagea will be hoping to keep their winning streak going when they face Ballylanders in the next fixture of the round-robin.
Old Mill will want to put their disappointing start behind them when they take on Feohanagh/Castlemahon.
In group two of the Senior ranks, Oola got the better of St.Ailbes 1-09 to 0-10.
St.Ailbes will be able to go back to the drawing board with a bye in the next round while Oola take on Dromcollogher Broadford.
In the Intermediate championship group one, Knockainey's second goal was the deciding factor in their game against Mungret St.Pauls.
The club's 2-07 to 1-07 victory puts them at the top of their group before the second round fixture against Adare, who had a tough opening loss to Murroe Boher on a scoreline of 6-11 to Adare's 1-10.
In group two of the Intermediate ranks, Galtee Gaels had the only draw of the weekend against St.Brigids.
Gaels will now face face Fr.Casey's next, who got a bye in the opening round of games.
There is only one group in the Junior A championship this year with five teams featuring in the competition.
Groody Gaels got off to winning ways against St. Ailbes on a full-time scoreline of 0-13 to 1-06.
In the other fixture in Junior A, Athea got the better of Ahane in a tight affair between the two sides.
Groody Gaels will now take on Athea and St.Ailbes take on the only team that had a round one bye, Gerald Griffins.
The Junior B championship also had a host of opening fixtures.
Fr Caseys had a tough loss to Monagea on a score of 11-11 to 4-10.
Croom had the most impressive scoreboard across the competitions with a scoreline of 8-14 to Old Mill's 2-06.
In the final two games of the weekend Dromcollogher/Broadford won against Granagh Ballingarry and Oola powered over Mungret St Pauls.
The next round of fixtures from Senior to Junior B all take place on Tuesday, August 29.
