LIMERICK’S senior camogie side face an uphill battle when they face Offaly away in two weeks time after being defeated by Waterford in the second round of championship.

The Treaty side lost to a more physical and fitter Waterford team on a scoreline of 2-19 to 0-11. John Lillis, Limericks senior camogie manager, gave his reaction after the game.

"It was a disappointing result in one sense, but you can’t be but proud of the girls. We tore into Waterford as long as we could, we stayed going and ultimately they had a bigger panel to pull them through.

"You have young girls coming up against some of the best players in the country, ultimately the difference was Waterford’s Beth Carton, she was on fire today. I don’t think she hit a wide in the whole game, she was just unmarkable and look that’s the level we are getting to.”

Limerick now face Offaly where they will need either a win or a draw in order to remain at senior status and not be relegated.  Looking ahead to the fixture, Lillis said the following. "The biggest thing now is freshness. We have a very tight panel at the minute through a lot of injuries so we want to have the girls as fresh as possible."
