University of Limerick stun UCC in Sigerson Cup clash

LAST year's beaten finalists University of Limerick (UL) made a winning start to their 2023 campaign when easing past UCC 2-7 to 0-10 at the Mardyke on Wednesday night.

ULs reward for their excellent opening round win is a meeting with TU Dublin at UL on Tuesday evening next, January 17 at 7pm.

The Limerick side led last night's game on Leeside 1-4 to 0-6 at half-time.

Key to ULs victory were goals in either half from Paul Walsh and Paul Mathews. Ciaran Downes and Paul Keaney were prominent for UL.

There are two Limerick representatives on the UL Sigerson Cup squad, Ronan McElligott, of Mungret St Pauls and John Hayes,  from St Kieran's.

ULs next opponents, TU Dublin, proved too strong for ATU Galway 1-13 to 0-9 in their Sigerson Cup opening round game at Grangegorman also on Wednesday night.
