Eddie Scanlan, former Limerick IFA chairman and current animal health representative, presented with honorary life membership by IFA president Francie Gorman, with Limerick IFA chair Louise Crowley
THE LATEST in a long list of proud Limerick men and women - who work tirelessly for their fellow farmers - to receive the IFA’s highest honour is Eddie Scanlan.
The popular Clarina man (pictured below at a protest in 2012) was celebrated at Limerick IFA’s AGM with IFA president Francie Gorman making the presentation.

Limerick IFA chairperson Louise Crowley said she was delighted to award this year’s honorary life membership to Mr Scanlan.
“Eddie has given outstanding service to Limerick IFA and the wider Irish Farmers’ Association over many years, and it is fitting that he is recognised with this award.
“Throughout his involvement with IFA, Eddie has been a committed representative of farmers, giving generously of his time at local, county and national level. He has consistently put the interests of farmers first, ensuring that issues affecting members were raised, challenged and followed through with determination,” said Ms Crowley.

Mr Scanlan has held many roles over the years within IFA including Limerick IFA chairman. He organised a huge tractor protest through Limerick city in 2012 when milk prices were on the floor.

The Clarina man (pictured above) led the way in his vintage tractor.
“Eddie has been a strong advocate for practical, common-sense farming policy, bringing informed voice to discussions, whether at meetings, consultations or engagements with public representatives and officials.
“Above all, Eddie’s service reflects the core values of IFA: commitment, integrity, fairness and solidarity with farm families. His dedication over the years has left a lasting positive impact on Limerick IFA and its members,” said Ms Crowley.
She concluded by saying Limerick IFA is proud to award honorary life membership to Mr Scanlan in recognition of his longstanding service, leadership and dedication.
