'Popular' Limerick farmer killed in bull attack

THE HEALTH and Safety Authority (HSA) have launched an investigation after a farmer was killed by a bull in County Limerick this Tuesday.

Limerick Live has learned that the deceased was a popular drystock farmer in Ahane.

A garda spokesperson said gardaí in Castleconnell are investigating the death of a man in his 60s following an incident on a farm.

"Gardaí were alerted this morning after the man’s body was discovered on farmland. The HSA attended the scene and are conducting their investigation.

"The body of the man has been removed from the scene to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem will take place in due course," said the garda spokesperson.

A file will now be prepared for the Coroner's Court.

One local told Limerick Live: "I only got a text an hour ago. I knew him well. He was fierce popular. He was a quiet man but very sociable. I don't know exactly what happened yet.

"I'm just in shock to be honest with you. May he rest in peace and my sympathies to his wife and children." 

A HSA spokesperson said: "The HSA is aware of this incident and have launched an investigation. There is no further information at this time."
