AS EXECUTIVE Director of Rape Crisis Midwest for 21 years, Miriam Duffy has “given a voice to the men and women who come through our doors”.

This tribute was paid to Miriam by her colleague Verena Tarpey last Thursday, as staff celebrated her achievements before bidding farewell.

Miriam, who began her work with Rape Crisis Midwest after 15 years with Adapt, admits “it has been a true privilege to lead such a vital organisation for the past 21 years”.

She said it would have been impossible without “the support of the dedicated team of staff and volunteers who work here”.

While crediting the community and organisations who have been generous with finances and advice alike, Miriam thanked “the people who have contacted us and used our services over the years for the trust they have placed in us”.

Adding to her tribute, Verena said, “everyone’s experience of rape and sexual abuse is different and Miriam has always recognised that.”

Now, caring Miriam looks to a future of relaxation and the odd visit back to her Midwest “family”.
